Public Works

The Village of Sherman Department of Public Works is committed to providing professional and quality service to the citizens of Sherman.  The Department’s mission is to operate and maintain Sherman public infrastructure and operate in a cost-effective and timely manner.  Our infrastructure consists of maintaining 26 miles of streets and alleys and decorative street lights (utility companies maintain overhead street lights), maintaining 100 acres of public parkland, two village informational entry signs, 18.2 acres of lakes and ponds, and an additional 7.5 acres of mowing area. 

The Department consists of three full time employees and a small cadre of part-time staff who are responsible for maintenance and service activities that includes:

  • Limb and Branch Pick Up
  • Snow Removal
  • Mosquito Control
  • Street Light Maintenance
  • Street and Storm Gutter Maintenance
  • Sewer Grinder Pump Maintenance
  • Mowing
  • Park and Equipment Maintenance
  • Maintenance of Village Vehicles and Equipment
  • Maintenance of Village Entry Signs & Street Banners
Sean's Background

Sean has been employed with the Village since 1994 and was appointed Director of Public Works in 2006. As Director, he oversees the day to day operation of the Department. A graduate of Williamsville High School, Sean received an athletic scholarship to play baseball for Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield where he received an Associate’s Degree before going on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. In addition, Sean has a certificate for the application of larvicide and pesticides.

Sean is married and he and his wife have two children who also attend Williamsville High School and Sean and his family are actively involved with Sports and other extra-curriculum activities.
