Proclamation for National Passport Month

Sangamon County Clerk's Office will be in Sherman on Saturday, September 21 from 9:00 am to Noon to provide Passport Services.

PROCLAMATION
NAMING SEPTEMBER AS NATIONAL PASSPORT MONTH


WHEREAS
, through international travel, Americans can individually play a role toward improving foreign relations by building bridges and making connections with citizens of other countries; and

 

WHEREAS, having a passport and traveling abroad creates connections with the global community, supporting goodwill throughout the world; and

 

WHEREAS, when Americans travel outside the United States, they experience opportunities to increase their understanding of the world; and

 

WHEREAS, fewer than 36 percent of Americans have passports, thereby limiting their ability to travel outside of the United States; and

 

WHEREAS, the creation and support of a National Passport Month signals to Americans the important role they can play as citizen ambassadors for the United States; and

 

WHEREAS, in previous years, the United States Government has designated September as "National Passport Month" to educate the public about the importance of having a passport and the positive impact international travel has on individuals; and

 

WHEREAS, a Sangamon County Circuit Clerk's Office is designated by the U.S. Department of State as a Passport Acceptance Facility with the ability to help citizens with their applications for new and renewal passports;

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Village of Sherman Board of Trustees supports the goals and ideals of National Passport Month; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Village encourages Sangamon County citizens to obtain their passport through the services of the Sangamon County Clerk’s Office, thus paving the way for travel that builds understanding and goodwill with other countries and expands the global perspective of Sangamon County travelers.
