The Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) reminds those served by the 217-area code that a new area code has been introduced to central Illinois. Also, as of February 27th, all local calls made within the 217-area code must be dialed with the 10-digit telephone number, which includes the 217-area code. If not all digits are dialed, a recording will instruct you to hang up and dial again.
