AED Fundraiser

  • 1/20/2019

Did you know that the on-duty Sherman police officer carries an AED as part of his response equipment? Sherman officers frequently are first responders to medical emergencies in our community and within the fire district. The AED is a portable device that provides, under specific conditions, electrical stimulation to the heart. It has proven to be a lifesaver in Sherman.

Our original equipment had been donated by a Sherman resident. These units are 10 years old and in need of replacement. We need to purchase two, but new units cost $3,000 each. The Department has approached a few organizations to assist us with a donation and we are pleased to announce that Fancy Creek Township and the Doctors of Springfield Clinic-Sherman have each donated $500 toward the purchase of a new unit(s). The Sherman Area Chamber of Commerce (SACC) has now joined the police department to try to raise funds for these AEDs. SACC is challenging it's membership and the  public by "matching member donations" (up to a grand total of $1,500). For further information go to www.shermanilchamber.org.

We still have a long way to go before we reach our $6,000 goal. If you would like to donate, please contact Chief Craig Bangert at cbangert@shermanil.org or 217.496.3256. We really appreciate any assistance you could provide.
